Welcome back to Mahi & Prags blog posts..
In this blog post we are covering our trip to Sundarbans.
As you hear in the name itself, the place is really ‘Sundar’ (in English – very beautiful)! Our friends’ family were also joining us for this trip!
We traveled by flight, reached Kolkata and settled into our hotel. Next day, our friend and his family joined us and we all headed towards Sundarbans..
THE LANDSCAPE-
The place we stayed looked stunning.. Here is a night pic of the place we stayed..

We could spend time at the hotel only at night.. This is because we get onto the boat in the morning, and get back to our hotel only at night.. We had our meals on the boat and even had space on the lower deck to rest on beds.
When we went to our boat, the sun had just risen… So we got beautiful pics of the boat docked near the shore with the beautiful sunlight in the backdrop.

Talking about the place, Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world with 40% of it in India and the rest in Bangladesh. The forest lies in the delta of the three rivers – Ganga, Brahmaputra and Meghna which join the Bay of Bengal.

The view from the boat was stunning and amazing to see!

While enjoying the landscape, we played fun games with our family…

Every evening we got to see the sunset from the boat as the mellow golden rays of sunshine reflected over the ripples of the water. All of us would rest our hands on the railing and watch until the sun sets.
Here are some photos of the sunset-

We also enjoyed watching the evident beautiful stars as we got down from the boat after sunset. It was treat after treat to our eyes!

SIGHTINGS–
Birds!
We got to see an amazing count of bird species here..
There were different kinds of them which we saw and enjoyed! We saw some birds perched upon branches, some flying, with a prey, and also saw some hunting for their prey.

Now comes the Animals!
We saw varieties of animals too.. Some of them we saw for the first time! We saw a lot of Crocodile’s basking in the sun, Otters, Monkeys carrying their babies, Monitor lizards, and the Airawat Dolphin which we couldn’t catch on camera.

Crocodiles

Not to forget we got to see the small but fierce looking Jungle cat and Fishing cat.

The trip was an awesome culmination of landscape, birds and animals. The boat safari was a very different and new experience for us. We had loads of fun on board as a family and we carry wonderful memories until today!
